“Hey Stevie!” Sodapop greeted with a grin. “Long time no talk!”
Stevie looked over at Sodapop, coming up behind her with that friendly grin he usually wore. “Hey Sodapop! Where have you been?” She turned on her heels and approached him, folding her arms over her chest to…
Stevie nodded, folding her arms and staring elsewhere. She took what Soda was saying into consideration; she supposed she could relate fairly well to what he was feeling. “I understand. You just shrug it off eventually. It’s pretty unfortunate at first .. but then you realize you have other people to rely on.”
“You’re right Stevie.” Sodapop agreed with a smile. “So what’s been up with you?”
“Well, I’ve been dreamin’ about summer time, and slackin’ on my grades.” Stevie grinned, even though she knew in her head it wasn’t exactly a good thing. “Soon enough it’ll all be over and I can just be free.. I miss summer..” Stevie frowned deeply, twisting her fingers together.
“I sure do know that feeling.” Sodapop said with a smile. “Summer is just a real good time of year. Everyone is worry and stress free and it’s real warm and nice outside.”
“Well, Tulsa gets almost too warm sometimes. I find myself running inside to catch some AC on the occasional summer day..” Stevie smiled wryly, running her tongue over her teeth as she avoided that dreaded feeling of a few more months of school. “Sometime during the summer, you should take me out for a drag race. I ain’t ever been in one, but I heard they’re real fun. Shoot, maybe you could even take me for one sometime sooner!” If Stevie knew one thing about Sodapop, it was that he liked drag races. A lot. Everyone knew that.
